Holy Communion (Eucharist)
Celebration of the Eucharist and the sharing of Communion is a central part of our communal life in Christ.
As a visitor/guest, know The Episcopal Church welcomes all baptized Christians to receive the bread and wine (body and blood, or "Holy Sacrament"), even if you aren't a member of the Episcopal Church. We recognize you as a fellow member of Christ's Body in your baptism, so please feel welcome and invited to partake of the Sacrament.

Worshiping during COVID
Beyond the regular virtual services St. John's offers, we've had the opportunity to do a variety of other types of services. St. John's has had the pleasure to lead the Dioceses of Iowa's virtual Eucharist service several times. Included among these is a moving Tenebrae service in April 2020.

We've also hosted several "drive-in" services, whether permitting, where the congregation gathered in their cars in the parking lot across the street from the church. Readers and cantors stepped out of their cars when the service reached their part so everyone could see. Congregants were able to hear by calling into a conference call.
These services have been very popular with the congregation, but due to the complex logistics of a livestream from a parking lot and the dependency on good weather, we've only been able to offer a handful of services in this format. |
Coffee Hour
We invite you to share a cup of coffee, tea and conversation immediately following worship in our sanctuary!
Additional Worship Services
Bishop's Visit
The Bishop of the Diocese of Iowa regularly travels to each parish to worship with congregations all over the state. He sticks around for coffee hour afterward; spending the time to get to know each congregation.

Holiday Services
St. John's always gets into the holiday spirit, decorating the front of the church to share the spirit with our community.

Blessing of the Animals
Every year in October, we have our Blessing of the Animals service. It is always fun to see the critters that show up. So far we've had cats and dogs, rabbits and ferrets, and even caterpillars and alpacas!
